2.1 Arena Map
Length*Width: 220*120 cm; Base: 30*30 cm；Material: PU Fabric
The preset tasks in one single round: 4; the highest score: 40 points. The secret tasks in one single round: 3; the highest score: 60 points. The total points of one round are 100 points.
2.2 Preset Tasks
Note: the position and orientation of the preset tasks will be issued on site, with Moving Rock excluded, the location of which is fixed on the ROCK.
Task 1: Weight Control
Scoring Criteria: The standard for pointing to the certain scale is that the vertical projection of pointer’s extending line casts on the dial scale. When the pointer points middle-left scales or right-middle scales, it can be concluded that the pointer points to the left or right. When the pointer points to the middle, the score is 6 points; when the pointer points to the left or left middle, the score is 10 points.
Note: Contestants must build an object (material and structure conforming to standard for robot in the “General Rules”) and put it on the left tray by the robot (adhesive as glue and tape is not allowed here); the right cube weight shouldn’t be detached from the right tray. Otherwise, the score is invalid.
Task 2: Moving Rock
Scoring Criteria: The Rock can only be placed within the black line. The score is 6 points if the vertical projection of the rock is out of the black line. The score is 10 points if the vertical projection of the rock touches the base.
Note: In any case, contestants must hand the rock models that they’ve gained over to the judge at the end of each round.
Task 3: Catapult
The score is 6 points if the rubber ring is inside the basket.
The score is 8 points if the rubber ring touches the grey tray while haven’t encircled or hung on the pillar.
The score is 10 points if the rubber ring encircles or hangs on the top of the pillar.
Task 4: Game of Balance
Scoring Criteria: The score is 10 points if both the two color bottles can be attracted to magnets of the balance lever.
2.3 Secret Tasks
Notice: The models, position, orientation and the scoring criteria will be unconcealed on the spot.
3.1 Sign in & Drawing Lots
Contestants can check their group division and the arena number at where they sign in.
3.2 Entering the Debugging Area
Contestants enter the debugging area; find their assigned seats and lay out their extension cords.
There are local power outlets around the arena. Participants need to bring voltage or frequency convertor on their own. Please bring extension cords as there will be some practice desks that are far from the power sockets. And always, please secure the plug and be careful while using the electricity.
3.2.1 Dimensions of the Robot
Dimensions: Before starting, the dimensions of the robot should be no more than 30*30*30 cm (length*width*height), which, however, can be changed after leaving the base. Controller: Only one controller is allowed to be used for each robot. The controller can’t be changed during a single round.
Actuator: Every robot is allowed to have at most 4 motors. When the motor is used for driving wheels, only one motor is allowed to drive one wheel. The bus servo motor is not allowed to use.
Sensor: The type and number of the sensor that can be used on a robot is unlimited, while integrated sensor is not allowed to use.
Structure: The robot can only be built by connecting the parts themselves. No ribbons, screws, rivets, glues, tapes etc. are allowed to be used for connecting.
Power: The robot must be powered by a battery. External power sources are not allowed. Voltage of the battery should be no more than 9V. External circuit board (for step up/step down/ stabilize voltage) is also forbidden.
In order to keep the contest fair, the judge is entitled to inspect any robots at any time. Any robot that violates the rules above can return to the arena after being changed as the rules require. Failure to abide by this rule will result in immediate disqualification.
Any change on the task models, on-site tasks and other short notice will be issued on the notice board.
Before each round of the contest, time will be provided for closed debugging and during which, contestants will design and modify the program and structure of the robots.
The type and amount of the light in the arena area will not be known until the contest day. Before the contest starts, there will be time for contestants to adjust the sensors. However, light on the arena may change as time goes by. Flashes from camera or other unknown light sources could happen during the contest. Contestants need to take this into consideration.
The debugging must be carried on in order and without any hints from coaches.
The team which violates the rule above would be disqualified from the contest.
3.5 Mothballing robots
After debugging, the robot will be kept by the judge (battery excluded). Contestants are not allowed to contact the robot without permission; otherwise, their qualification will be removed.
3.6 Contest System
The arena tasks are divided into 2 rounds, each round contains 3 minutes which are started as the judge whistles and ended as the judge whistles again. If the participant chooses the secret tasks, time for completing them will be included in one single round.
Contestants are not allowed to contact task models or robots from outside of the base. Contestants are not allowed to assist the robot to navigate or finish the tasks in any ways. Failure to obey the rules above will result in 5 points deduction (-5) from the final score and the robot being requested to reboot from the base. The change of the arena caused by “violation” will be left in that way, however, points obtained from the objects that the robot carries will be invalid and the objects will be kept by the judge until the end of this round of the contest, during which, the timekeeping won’t stop. Note: if total score is below 0 point after deduction, the final score will be recorded as 0 point.
3.6.2 Contest Termination
During the contest, the judge is entitled to terminate the contest if contestants or robots demolish the arena, interrupt the contest or offend the judge. However, contestants also can apply to the judge for terminating the contest at any time. Judge will record the time used before announcing the end of the contest; the score gained is valid and won’t affect that of the other round.
The final score of the team is the sum scores of the two rounds. The higher one team’s final score is, the higher its rank will be. When two teams’ final scores are even, the one with less “RESTART” will get higher rank. When times of “RESTART” are the same, the team spending less time in two rounds will rank higher.
Base: where the robot sets off and is repaired;
Set-off: the vertical projection of the robot is out of the base;
Return to the Base: the vertical of any parts (the task models the robot gained included) of the robot contacts the base. (Timekeeping continues when the robot returns to the base; no penalty will be caused.).
